2018 Emmys: Who Should Win, Who Will Win

The Emmys are tomorrow and like the Oscars, I’m going to give my breakdown od who should and who will win the major awards. You know the drill on categories where I haven’t seen enough of the nominees…I just root for the black people.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

  • Louie Anderson – Baskets (FX)
  • Alec Baldwin – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
  • Brian Tyree Henry – Atlanta (FX)
  • Tony Shalhoub – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)
  • Kenan Thompson – Saturday Night Live (NBC)
  • Henry Winkler – Barry (HBO

Honorable Mention: Brian Tyree Henry

Who Should Win: Kenan Thompson

  • Kenan has been doing his thing FOREVER. He is the longest reigning member of SNL and when he gets his time to shine he does. #KenanOrBust

Who Will Win: Tony Shalhoub

  • Read Outstanding Comedy Series

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

  • Zazie Beetz – Atlanta (FX)
  • Alex Borstein – The Marvelous Mrs. Masiel (Amazon)
  • Aidy Bryant – Saturday Night Live (NBC)
  • Betty Gilpin – GLOW (Netflix)
  • Leslie Jones – Saturday Night Live (NBC)
  • Kate McKinnon – Saturday Night Live (NBC)
  • Laurie Metcalf – Rosanne (ABC)
  • Megan Mullally – Will & Grace (NBC)

Honorable Mention: Leslie Jones

Who Should Win: Zazie Beetz

  • Van is probably the most underappreciated character on the show. Zazie is a scene stealer and another scene-stealing role in Deadpool 2 will hopefully help her with voters.

Who Will Win: Kate McKinnon

  • Kate McKinnon is talented. Point-Blank-Period. That is the end of my Ted Talk.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

  • Anthony Anderson – Black-ish (ABC)
  • Ted Danson – The Good Place (NBC)
  • Larry David – Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO)
  • Donald Glover – Atlanta (FX)
  • Bill Hader – Barry (HBO)
  • William H. Macy – Shameless (Showtime)

Honorable Mention: William H. Macy

Who Should Win: Ted Danson

  • The Good Place is one of (if not the) smartest show on television. The story of 4 people convinced they are in the “Good Place” only for it to be revealed that they are actually in the “Bad Place” and are tortured by each other. I thought the twist at the end of the first season could not be topped but season two only made me love this show more. That is in no small part to the incredible performance from the whole class. I’m mad that the rest of the cast and the rest of the crew weren’t recognized, but Ted Danson deserves this nomination and award.

Who Will Win: Donald Glover

  • He won last year and has the momentum and Teddy Perkins is an iconic episode of television.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

  • Pamala Adlon – Better Things (FX)
  • Rachel Brosnahan – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)
  • Allison Janney – Mom (CBS)
  • Issa Rae – Insecure (HBO)
  • Trace Ellis Ross – Black-ish (ABC)
  • Lily Tomlin – Grace and Frankie (Netflix)

Honorable Mention: Trace Ellis Ross

Who Should Win: Pamala Aldon and Issa Rae

  • I couldn’t decide. I’m super pumped and proud that Issa got a nomination. Insecure is the Girlfriends of this generation. Issa, Molly, Kelly, and Tiffany are complex black women and that is what we need to see more of.
  • On the other hand, Better Things is so damn good. The Eulogy episode was the best thing I’ve seen on TV in years. It was heartbreaking, honest, and beautiful. Not only did Pamala Aldon star in the episode, but she wrote and directed it. This show and Aldon are genius and deserve some recognition.

Who Will Win: Rachel Brosnahan

  • Read Outstanding Comedy Series

Outstanding Comedy Series

  • Atlanta (FX)
  • Barry (HBO)
  • Black-ish (ABC)
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO)
  • GLOW (Netflix)
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)
  • Silicon Valley (HBO)
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)

Honorable Mention: GLOW and Black-ish

Who Should Win: THE GOOD PLACE

  • WHAT THE FORK!!!! How is this show not nominated?!?!?!?!?

Who Will Win: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

  • It won the Golden Globe. I’ve never seen it but it seems like this seasons award show darling.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – Game of Thrones (HBO)
  • Peter Dinklage – Game of Thrones (HBO)
  • Joseph Fiennes – The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
  • David Harbour – Stranger Things (Netflix)
  • Mandy Patinkin – Homeland (Showtime)
  • Matt Smith – The Crown (Netflix)

Honorable Mention: Joseph Fiennes

Who Should Win: Matt Smith

  • The Crown gave Smith his time to shine in season two and this was highlighted by an episode all about Prince Philip. In the loss of John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, Smith was the breakout this season and that is saying a lot.

Who Will Win: Peter Dinklage

  • I’ve never seen Game of Thrones but this guy keeps winning this award so…

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

  • Alexis Bledel – The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
  • Millie Bobby Brown – Stranger Things (Netflix)
  • Ann Dowd – The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
  • Lena Headey – Game of Thrones (HBO)
  • Vanessa Kirby – The Crown (Netflix)
  • Thandie Newton – Westworld (HBO)
  • Yvonne Strahovski – The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)

Honorable Mention: Vanessa Kirby

Who Should Win: Yvonne Strahovski

  • Serena Joy was a sort of revelation this season. She is living in her own created hell. But when she gets her small taste of freedom back and realizes that her, I mean June and the butler’s, daughter would be punished because she isn’t allowed to read we see her fight back a little. This is at the expense of part of her pinky but maybe she is coming to her senses. Hopefully.

Who Will Win: Alexis Bledel

  • Read Outstanding Drama Series

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

  • Jason Bateman – Ozark (Netflix)
  • Sterling K. Brown – This is Us (NBC)
  • Ed Harris – Westworld (HBO)
  • Matthew Rhys – The Americans (FX)
  • Milo Ventimiglia – This is Us (NBC)
  • Jeffery Wright – Westworld (NBC)

Honorable Mention: Milo Ventimiglia

Who Should Win: Matthew Rhys

  • I legit watched one episode of the Americans so far and I am in love with Philip Jennings. Finding out Matthew Rhys was Welsh and has an accent…I died. I’m just going to assume the last season is as good as the first episode.

Who Will Win: Sterling K. Brown

  • Randal/Sterling have truly become the stars of this show and he once again delivered an excellent season of this cry-fest.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

  • Claire Foy – The Crown (Netflix)
  • Tatiana Maslany – Orphan Black (BBC America)
  • Elisabeth Moss – The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
  • Sandra Oh – Killing Eve (BBC America)
  • Keri Russell – The Americans (FX)
  • Evan Rachel Wood – Westworld (HBO)

Honorable Mention: Clair Foy

Who Should Win: Sandra Oh

  • Oh, how I missed Sandra Oh. Christina Yang was an iconic character and that is all due to Oh’s performance. Killing Eve finally gives Oh the chance she deserves to be the lead and she does not disappoint. It’s a shame that her co-star Jodi Comer did not receive a nomination as they are the best spy-villain duo on TV.

Who Will Win: Elisabeth Moss

  • Read Outstanding Drama Series

Outstanding Drama Series

  • The Americans (FX)
  • The Crown (Netflix)
  • Game of Thrones (HBO)
  • Stranger Things (Netflix)
  • This is Us (NBC)
  • Westworld (HBO)

Honorable Mention: The Crown

Who Should Win: The Americans

  • Again, one episode in and this is the greatest show ever.

Who Will Win: The Handmaid’s Tale

  • It won last year and the themes remain relevant. I expect a repeat for June and the gang
